Heritage Humane Society continues to depend on individual donors, grants, companies, community partnerships and fundraising throughout the year to meet more than 90 percent of our operating expenses which are budgeted at nearly a million dollars per year.
Heritage Humane Society has the government contracts with Animal Control for James City County, City of Williamsburg, and District 1 of York County, and the total from all 3 municipalities is equal to less than 10% of our total operating budget.
Your support is critical in helping save more lives of homeless pets that are in transition to their forever homes. An unrestricted gift allows us to use your donation in the best way possible to serve the pets in need. Heritage Humane Society is a 501 (c) (3) organization and your donation is fully deductible to the extent of the law. We are grateful for your help and support.
Please consider an unrestricted gift to Heritage Humane Society. In doing this you give us the opportunity to direct your donation to where it is needed most.
Your unrestricted donation to General Operations will support animal care, food, medicine, veterinary care and facility care and upkeep and everything else.
Make a $25, $50 or $100 recurring donation each month and you become a “Heritage Hero” to a pet in need. Your support will cover all costs associated with one pet from his or her intake through adoption including the following: spay/neuter, medical care and treatment, food, and so much more. The monthly donation can come right off your credit card with no additional action needed by you.
The Heritage Humane Society truly appreciates the opportunity to honor, memorialize and pay tribute to friends and loved ones. When you select to make a donation in someone’s name, you create a permanent reminder of a shared love of pets.
We always request the full name and address of the individual being recognized. It is also important to state whether each tribute is for a person or a beloved pet.
The Preventative Medicine fund pays for necessary vaccines that all society animals must have in order to be adopted. Vaccines protect against canine distemper, Bordetella, parvovirus, feline FIV, and leukemia.
Because most animals arrive at the Society as strays the Society must vaccinate before the animal can be placed for adoption. The society vaccinates over 1,000 animals a year, costing roughly $25,000.00 a year.
The C.A.R.E. fund provides medical care to society housed animals that have injuries and/or illnesses that ordinarily would not be treated because of the expense involved.
The C.A.R.E. fund helps treat animals with diabetes, gunshot wounds, cancer, heart worms, broken legs, eye ulcers, kidney stones and skin diseases, just to name a few.
The Pet Angel Program evolved out of an increased number of owners surrendering their animals because the owner was facing financial crises and could no longer afford to feed and maintain the household companion animal. After a documented 104 out 366 owner surrenders because of the downturn in the economy the Society took action.
The Spay and Neuter fund pays the surgical costs for society animals that need to be altered prior to adoptions. Unaltered pets are one of the leading causes for unwanted companion animals.
Participating veterinary clinics offer the Heritage Humane Society reduced rates allowing the society to make the most out of your donation.
The purpose of the McDuff fund is to provide emergency funding for society adopters who have encountered unforeseen pet medical expenses and can demonstrate a financial need.
The Heritage Humane Society Board of Director’s Finance and Investment Committee is responsible for oversight of the McDuff fund. Donations to the McDuff fund provide assistance to families in emergency situations ultimately preventing animal surrenders.
