About HHS Auxiliary

The Heritage Humane Society Auxiliary (HHSA) has been a vital part of the Heritage Humane Society (HHS) for over 20 years. As a standing committee of the HHS, we continually seek to develop and present numerous and varied fundraising events to support the shelter while creating community awareness and education about all HHS services.

Our members willingly donate their time, energy and other resources in response to the needs of HHS and its commitment to humane care and professional treatment for all injured, ill, stray or unwanted animals. We offer a social structure where members work together on fundraising projects, network and have fun through events and informal gatherings.

We sponsor numerous fundraising events every year raising more than $100,000 with all proceeds helping fund operating expenses of the HHS Shelter.

HHSA members meet at the Williamsburg Library at 10:15 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month. We welcome anyone interested in learning more about HHSA to attend our monthly meeting or, for more information, please call (757) 221-0150 or email auxiliary@heritagehumanesociety.org.

Fur Tree

The long-standing tradition of the Fur Tree, in honor of pets and homeless animals, is placed each year in front of Mermaid Books in Colonial Williamsburg. The tree is put up each year on the weekend following Thanksgiving and remains there until after New Years. You have 2 options for purchasing your bow, which goes on sale November 1.

Host a Scarf Party

The Heritage Humane Society Auxiliary is now offering private sales of gently used ladies scarves. We’ll come to you and your friends! A member of the group will illustrate the use of the scarves to enhance and extend one’s wardrobe. Are you part of a social club? Host a scarf party event, and all proceeds will benefit the homeless. It’s a fun, easy and beneficial way to make a difference.

The display and sale of the scarves includes every fabric, size, shape, and color. Prices range from $5 to $40. All proceeds go directly to the homeless pets at Heritage Humane Society.

   Ongoing Programs

Precious Pieces – Handmade Blanket Donations

The fear and anxiety that comes with being abused, lost and abandoned can be overwhelming for our Shelter animals. Although they are treated with great care by both the Heritage Humane Society staff and its dedicated volunteers, adjusting to new surroundings takes time. Wanting to help make the transition more calming to all the shelter animals.

Precious Pieces has started a group of knitters and crocheters who are making small blankets given as gifts to each adopted pet so that they can feel cozy and safe. Email Precious Pieces to volunteer.

2017 Make Par for Pets Golf Classic Recap

The 2017 Make Par for Pet Golf Classic, was a HUGE success. It was a fantastic day, full of friends and animal-lovers golfing for homeless pets. The skies cleared up just as the shot-gun start began! Nearly 100 golfers attended and raised $30,000 for homeless pets!

Antique Mall Booth

A booth at the Williamsburg Antique Mall is provided to us without charge in return for our members donating time on Fridays to package and wrap mall purchases at the front desk.

Members of the Auxiliary and community support our mission to raise money for the shelter by donating items to sell in our booth. If you have items to donate or would like to volunteer, please contact Connie Jacobs, jacobscs@cox.net
